Hello. It should be quite interesting the improvement of NEO’s management directly from Robotarget.
I know it’s a difficult thing, as Voyager, I suppose, does not calculate asteroids orbits, and takes the position directly from the Planetarium program.
I select the suitable objects for my equipment (Magnitude, speed, etc).
I export the orbital elements to a TheSkyX compatible file (Asteroid Small database).
I import that file into TheSkyX.
I can now use Robotarget and select the required NEO.
In this way is OK, but not perfect.
As you may know, NEOs orbital elements are improved in hours…
If I do the previous procedure , for example, at 18:00 and the NEO is going to appear at 23:00, I have the orbital elements as known at 18:00. And sometimes in between, at 23:00 there are more observations made from other observatories and the orbital elements are better fixed and newly calculated, and so, different.
But I understand that it’s TheSkyX who deals with the asteroid orbit, so it’s mainly a feature request to TheSkyX people to update the program with NEOs asteroids.
But I have always the hope Voyager one day surprises us, as usual!!
Voyager calculate the asteroids orbit with RoboOrbits and also the NEO orbits if included in the database downloadable (or added manually at end of downloadable file before import it).
RoboTarget already work with Planets, comets and Asteroids.
The interest in the feature you are asking is pratically null from other users so if you want to see implemented you must ask for a custom development.
I had no idea of that feature.
I used always the RoboOrbits finder for known asteroids, but I didn’t know it was possible adding manually new asteroids to the downloadable file.
I’ll give a try!
I’m not sure the interest is almost null. There is a big community of people using the Neo Confirmation website, and I’m not the only Voyager user.
But thanks for your answer. I think I can do something with it.
I’'l keep you informed.
Thx
Good morning, I also do follow up and search for NEOs and currently in Voyager I manually insert into the “sequence” the orbital elements from the JPL Scout site (which has more precise ephemerides than the Minor Planet Center). I agree that having an automatic implementation of these databases in Voyager would be an essential convenience, with the possibility of tracking more NEOs in the same night.
Best regards
Marco
We have tried but interest in this is zero practically , please create a group of interested users, give us a specific detailed for develop and ask for a custom development using the support email.
