this version is for the developer of Donuts, He must write code to talk with Voyager Application Server. I don’t know so much about , its a system used for help on exoplanet transit research.
This is a custom development asked to me. Wiki will be update when all work Donuts side.
Thanks Leo. I do a lot of work using precision tracking and would like to converse more with the developer. I can share my experiences with ATrack which may provide additional insights to the Donuts developer. Have them private message me directly if they are interested.
Craig
I think these are 2 different things but you can contact @gboyle in PM in this forum fo rmore info about.
For Atrack, Voyager Custom development is a service opened to all of you.
The image shift measuring algorithm is available through PyPi (pip install donuts) or from the source above. Documentation is here Donuts — donuts v0.2.4.
The Voyager wrapper around the Donuts algorithm is currently being developed. I have a wrapper for ACP also and am happy to discuss any customisation people might be interested in.
A word of caution, I’m an astronomer and not a professional software developer
OK, I’m intrigued about when Donuts could/should be correctly used. Is it purely intended for VERY high precision guiding only (e.g., for photometry) - which is why I believe you developed it in the first place - and only for specific equipment, or would there be any benefit to be gained in utilising it during ‘normal’ astrophotography sessions, in place of (or in conjunction with?) say PHD2?
I’ve checked out your GitHub info, but not really any wiser!
Fo sure James can answer in the right way. Donuts is used in Voyager to be sure the pointing of target (not guiding) is under subpixel precision for photometry and transit.
Understood, my curiosity is satisfied … so it’s not intended (or necessary) for ‘normal’ imaging sessions then! I can appreciate the precision and accuracy required for those other more complex tasks, so this must a real benefit to those who pursue such ventures.
Whilst Donuts might not be of any use to me personally in that case, it’s brilliant to see how Voyager is being constantly developed and updated in so many different ways for so many different reasons (and users), whilst all the time providing a reliable, predictable and bomb-proof application that ‘just works’.
I’ve now been successfully using Voyager for about 10 months and it’s never once let me down yet (although the UK weather certainly has!).
