KMTronic USB Version

Has anyone successfully used the KMTronic USB Relay Controller - Eight Channel (FTDI) 12V with Viking?

Hi Dennis,

VIking do not support this Controller, support the LAN version.
List of supported I/O cards here:
https://wiki.starkeeper.it/index.php/Viking#List_of_Supported_I.2FO_Cards_and_Automation_Protocols

Not a good idea to use a USB comunication for this kind of device.

OK LAN it is, Thank You

There are two LAN versions:

  • KMTronic - LAN Ethernet IP 8 channels UDP Relay board
  • KMTronic - LAN Ethernet IP 8 channels WEB Relay board
Which works better with Viking, UDP or WEB?
    Cheers,
    Dennis

Its equal for Viking. All work fine.

About this one, I have the USB version. I created the scripts and let voyager read the output to know if the command was successful. Never failed me.

Leo, can I purpose to have this one equipment integrated in viking too, whenever possible?

Thanks
Miguel

This cards are already managed in VIking:

  • KMTronic - LAN Ethernet IP 4 channels UDP Relay board
  • KMTronic - LAN Ethernet IP 8 channels UDP Relay board
  • KMTronic - LAN Ethernet IP 8 channels WEB Relay board

Leo, fully aware of the list. Just suggesting to have their usb version supported too, they are generally cheaper for the average amateur astronomer.

Thanks for the reply, tho.

Hi Miguel,

if you want cheaper use the Velleman. As I said so many problems with usb. Velleman has Usb if you are interested in this type of communication.

Hi Miguel,

You can use NodeRed to exposed your KMTronic USB IO card as a KMTronic UDP card that is compatible with Viking.

If you are interested let me know (contact me privately) and I will share the details. I already have a working flow that exposes some Sonoff WiFi relays as a KMTronic UDP relay card and it works fine with Viking.

Use at your own risk. This method of interacting with Viking is not officially supported and it hasn’t been extensively tested. It is just a hack.

Cheers,

José

Using USB card expose you to a signal/ground/powering problem and need a PC to be managed.
This is why usually is not supported in VIking.
