M77 and Supernova NS2018 IVC

M77 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Cetus, approximately 47 million light years from Earth. On November 24, 2018 supernova SN2018 IVC was discovered about 50’ southeast of the 4th magnitude star Delta Ceti. We began shooting images of the supernova within 24 hours of its discovery, and continued shooting for one week. Our color images were taken more than 5 days after discovery, so we expected the color of the supernova to have shifted from its initial blue to red. The supernova is denoted with black lines in this image.

This image was taken with our galaxy-class imaging array, including 600mm, 400mm and 330mm telescopes. 37-1/2 hours of data in LRGB were shot and processed in Samphran, Thailand by the SC Observatory team: Mike Selby, Andy Chatman, Stefan Schmidt.

Voyager was used on two systems:

  • OS RiFAST 400 single telescope configuration
  • OS RiLA 600 and OS RiDK 330 multiple telescope configuration
